The tight-turning track and small straight of Gatton proved no obstacle for Hessian who landed his third career win on Friday.

Second up from a spell, stepping up in distance and class, Hessian settled a clear last in the field of eight runners.

At the 600m the son of Medaglia D’oro started to move into the race and continued to improve his position to be within striking distance of the leaders as the widest runner at the top of the straight.

With only 250 to the winning post, Hessian produced big strides to arrive just in time – getting the nod from the judge in a photo finish.

It was a strong win early in his prep and signals an exciting campaign ahead.

Congratulations to connections!!
